Your Session
Most portrait sessions take place in or around Spearfish, Spearfish Canyon, or in my studio. However, I absolutely love to travel to other unique areas of the Black Hills. I often photograph sessions at Sylvan Lake, Badlands National Park, Custer State Park, Pactola Lake, and Sheridan Lake. If you’d like any of these fun locations, morning sunlight or golden hour in the late afternoon and evening are typically the best times for sessions. Reach out to me so we can confirm the best timing for lighting in these epic locations!

Heirloom Session
on film!
This is a specialty session shot on film! As a hybrid photographer, nothing beats the soft contrast and beautiful hues of real film. We want this session to be about your family and the memories you create: lots of candids, very little posing, raw, natural, and real. I use medium format cameras and I send off my film to be developed by my amazing lab in Oregon. They develop and scan the images for me so we have your gorgeous film images as digital scans, just as easy to use as regular digitals! But in my opinion, with a more timeless quality.

Mini Sessions
I only offer a handful of mini sessions during the year (aside from our specialty minis: mommy and me, fall minis, and holiday/Christmas minis) and here’s why:
I don't want the only reason to book with me to be a low price. I want to get to know you. I want to watch your children - get down to their level and watch them run and play in the grass and the golden sunlight. See your family interactions. The candid moments. The raw emotion. It sometimes takes little ones a little while to warm up to a photographer, and I don't want to be rushed. I want to earn their trust so I get to capture the REAL them.
This way I can document your family in the most honest way. I simply cannot do this in a mini session. I want to be picky with our locations and lighting so you'll have memories we're both proud of. And I've limited the amount of sessions I've taken on overall so I can better serve my clients and give them my full attention.
That being said: I know money is tight for everyone right now, and if a mini session is more in your budget, that’s ok! I am offering a select number of mini sessions that will be offered in Spearfish this summer and I promise you, I’ll work hard to make sure we have images we’re both proud of in that timeframe.
